I am extraordinarily concerned by the threat to democracy posed by "events contracts" which can pertain to political outcomes, be influenced by individuals with wealth, and introduce conflicts of interests to voters. Any democratic process should not have financial incentives for a given outcome. It is extremely important that prediction markets are regulated to ban the use of insider information, to prevent individuals with large amounts of money to influence the odds given on an event contract, and to keep democratic processes free and fair.
