Gambling is inherently exploitative and any intelligent and educated person knows that and doesn't waste much time and energy on such an activity. But any free society that values liberty balances those facts with a certain degree of realistic latitude for allowing this vice to its citizenry. That's the America I've always grown up in.
The age we are living in now is completely unrecognizable, completely unsustainable, completely dystopian, and headed for disaster. It's a nightmare.
Polymarket is the kind of thing a science fiction writer would come up with, and the obvious moral of the story would be that no decent and enlightened society would ever allow such a thing to exist. Allowing folks to publicly, shamelessly, and unapologetically place wagers on death and misfortune occurring to other human beings is beyond unethical. Same for allowing such blatantly manipulable wagers. (Yes, these are bets and wagers, no matter what language is used.) This sort of thing will always take place in backrooms and black markets, but it should never be allowed in the light of day by any responsible government body that takes on the charge of protecting its citizenry from exploitation and abuse. The CFTC is asleep at the wheel and has forgotten the meaning of the word ethics. Wake up.
