Thank you for carefully reading thoughtful submissions to your important invitation to comments!
I sincerely advise the Honorable Commissioners that they should explicitly prohibit event contracts related to military operations, acts of war, terrorism, political assassinations, and non-financial government policy decisions as contrary to the public interest. Additionally, any event contract where the outcome can be known in advance or controlled by a specific individual or small group is inherently susceptible to manipulation and should face a presumption against approval. This includes award show results, political speeches, corporate announcements, and any event where insiders have definitive advance knowledge.
All Americans deserve the chance to choose wisely and to not routinely face critically dangerous financial manipulation just to allow the cheap-thrills of nearly-automated monetizing of public facing issues of great risk like wars, individual deaths and other above-mentioned events. The broader pressures that over-ride “best or better interests” of our children and our small “d” democracy-based communities is an irresponsible dereliction of duty for leadership to allow and encourage.
Thank you for taking seriously your part of the responsibility of regulating via prohibitions or at least common sense limits on these recklessly applied betting mechanisms
